Dental Implants

Missing teeth can have a wide range of negative effects on a patient: they can create issues with chewing, cause their other teeth to skew out of their current alignment, or even change the shape of their face. On top of this, most patients tend to prefer the aesthetic of a full set of straight teeth. With this, dental implants represent a permanent, stable solution.

Dental implant is a surgical procedure that is done in two appointments: on the first appointment, the dentist will fuse a titanium screw directly to the jawbone. The patient will be provided with the appropriate form of anesthesia to ensure that they are comfortable for the duration of the procedure. A temporary false tooth is installed while your gums grow to line up at the base of the implant. While that is happening, the screw will naturally fuse with your jawbone, following the process called β€˜osseointegration’.

On the second appointment, which occurs after 3 to 4 months after the installation of the implant, will assess the dental implant to ensure that it’s properly fused. At that point your dentist will affix an artificial tooth, likely made from acrylic resin, which will have been carefully shaped and coloured to conform to the natural teeth.

Implants offer patients a lasting solution as it works independently of neighboring teeth, giving them an advantage over solutions like dentures or a dental bridge. They are extremely sturdy and look just like natural teeth.
