Annual Free Dentistry Day Brings Essential Dental Care To Hundreds

Access to dental care remains a challenge for many Canadians, including those living in larger urban communities. Recognizing this need, Centrum Dental Centre’s Kanata-based dentists, Dr. Yamen Ghamian and Dr. Habib Khoury, established a Canada-wide community outreach initiative in 2015, encouraging dental offices to dedicate one day each year to providing no-cost essential dental services to individuals facing barriers to care.

Through this annual Free Dentistry Day initiative, participating dental offices volunteer their time and resources to offer basic dental services – such as a filling, extraction, or cleaning – to eligible community members. Each patient is offered one service, based on clinical appropriateness, during the designated outreach day.

On September 27, 2025, our team hosted its 9th annual Free Dentistry Day. Patients began arriving early in the morning, giving us the opportunity to care for individuals ranging from young children to seniors. Some participants travelled significant distances to attend, highlighting the ongoing need for accessible dental care in our region.

With the support of a fully volunteer dental team, 52 individuals received essential dental services, representing $32,648 in donated care!

Dr. Ghamian and Dr. Khoury continue to advocate for similar community-focused initiatives across Canada. Since Free Dentistry Day’s inception, participating clinics nationwide have collectively provided care to over 600 individuals, contributing almost $500,000 in donated dental services.

Thank you to our volunteers and the Kanata community for your ongoing support of this important initiative
