Dr. Yamen Ghamian was raised in Montreal. After finishing British high school overseas, he returned to Montreal and attended the Microbiology program at McGill University for two years. During that time, he was on the Dean's Honour List and a member of the prestigious Golden Key Society.
He then went on to complete his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree at McGill University. He was the Canadian Dental Association student representative of his graduating class as well as the sports representative for the Dental Student society.
Dr. Ghamian graduated with numerous awards, including the Dr. Thornton Gold Medal, which is conferred upon the student with the highest standings for the dental degree program. He was also awarded the Prix Aldis Bernard, from the Order of Dentists of Quebec, given for excellence in academic achievements in Dentistry. Dr. Ghamian received the Prix Dr. Jean-Robert Vincent, awarded for excellence in special care dentistry in relation to Geriatric Dentistry.
In addition he was awarded the Pierre Fauchard prize for outstanding student leadership and fellowship at the dental undergraduate level.
Dr. Ghamian also obtained numerous scholarships including the McConnell Scholarship, Pierre Fauchard Academy Scholarship, and the Faculty of Dentistry Summer Research Scholarship.
Dr. Ghamian has successfully completed the American Dental Association National Boards Part I and Part II and the National Dental Examining Board of Canada Exams. He is currently licensed with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and is a member of the Ontario Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
After dental school, Yamen went on to do a one year residency at the University of Michigan, one of the top three dental schools in the United States. There he attained an Advanced Education in General Dentistry certificate. This education gave him advanced knowledge of cosmetic and periodontal dentistry. It also gave him a solid hold of behaviour modification, a skill essential in paediatric dentistry.
After residency, Dr Ghamian chose to make Ottawa his home, where he lives with his wife Hadia and daughter Layan. Dr Ghamian is currently pursuing a fellowship with the Academy of General dentistry, and endeavor that involves among other things, 500 hours of continuing education courses. Dr. Ghamian prides himself in taking the time to thoroughly and completely discuss treatment options with his patients. He believes the best form of dentistry is the least treatment necessary to obtain ideal oral health.
